Two Grands prix du Design awards for the Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium
On January 29, 2014, the architect consortium composed of Ædifica and Cardin Ramirez Julien won two awards for the Rio Tinto Alcan Planetarium project in the Grands Prix du Design competition: the first in the “Public and Institutional Space, Museum” category, and the second in “Valorization of Wood in Interior Design.” The two firms joined forces on this project to create a new environment for the Planetarium that would include an immersive astronomy experience that gives the visitor the feeling of being in direct contact with the sky. Consisting of three levels, the new Planetarium's bold design in aluminum and wood also meets the strictest standards in green construction.
"These two awards are well deserved for a building whose visitors report appreciating the warmth of the wood, the natural light and the esthetic appeal of the venue." - Espace pour la vie
