SnackBox : The art of reinventing the New York street food venue

SnackBox 4

Located in the heart of Times Square, this compact restaurant draws its visual identity from its energetic surroundings. Built from a recycled shipping container and powered by a hybrid energy system combining solar and generator power, SnackBox embodies mobility, autonomy, and modern design. In less than two minutes, the unit unfolds at the push of a button: lower panels drop down to form serving counters, while the upper panels lift to create cantilevered awnings. Inside, a fully equipped kitchen, a sleek service counter, and an inviting terrace come to life.

Its industrial yet refined aesthetic is defined by bold black-and-white graphics that stand out against the colorful neon lights of Times Square. By day, SnackBox acts as a lively urban gathering point; by night, it folds back into itself, transforming into a sculptural object—both discreet and expressive within the cityscape.

Designed with sustainability and efficiency in mind, SnackBox uses durable, recyclable materials, standardized components, and low-impact systems to ensure minimal environmental footprint and optimized operations. Entirely self-sufficient, it houses potable and grey water tanks beneath the floor, while its hybrid power supply ensures functionality even in dense urban environments. Compact and modular, the structure complies with international transport standards, allowing easy relocation by land or sea.

More than a mobile restaurant, SnackBox represents a prototype for adaptable, experiential architecture—a fusion of design, gastronomy, and technology. After its first installation in Old Montréal, the concept was successfully replicated in Toronto, Paris, and New York. Through technical ingenuity, aesthetic clarity, and environmental consciousness, Ædifica demonstrates its expertise in creating spaces that not only perform but also inspire—transforming a street corner into an experience, and a container into a destination.
