Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont

Ædifica and its partners have just completed a new phase of the large-scale Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont project. The hospital’s emergency care unit was moved and expanded to almost double its original size. With more than 70,000 patients per year, this emergency department is among the busiest in the country. Facilities have been renovated and upgraded to meet technology and patient safety standards – they are now more spacious, efficient and user-friendly. Immaculate white spaces provide comfort and privacy to some 190 patients who are seen daily by the medical team. The next and final stage of the project involves the former premises of the unit: ambulatory services, medical imaging and triage, waiting room, fast track unit and the clinical administrative section. Our team of experts will work to minimize the impact of construction on the operating rooms located above and the hospitalization unit below, both of which will stay open during construction. Completion of this final phase is slated for mid-2017.

LOCATION: Montreal, Quebec, Canada
TYPE OF INTERVENTION: Expansion and redevelopment
SURFACE: 120,000 square feet, including a 90,000 square-foot expansion (new emergency-care unit) and 27,000 square-foot renovation (former emergency-care unit)
IMPLEMENTATION: Sequential – (eight phases)
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT: Energy efficiency strategy
EXECUTION: From 2013 to 2017

Ædifica was first commissioned to upgrade Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont facilities more than a decade ago. The firm oversaw construction of the ambulatory services unit, completed in 2004, the expansion of the Pavillon J-A. DeSève wing (research) in 2014 and most recently the expansion of the new emergency department in 2016. It expects to complete the redevelopment of the former emergency area by mid-2017. In total, the Ædifica team will have designed, upgraded and built more than 450,000 square feet for one of Canada’s largest hospitals.
