Ædifica unveils its third annual sustainability report
Ædifica has just released its annual sustainability report, as part of Earth Day, its third annual sustainability report following its adhesion to the United Nations' Global Compact three years ago. Therefore, Ædifica continues to be the first and only Quebec SME offering professional services in architecture and design to engage in this global process and publish a report. It follows in the footsteps of major players such as Bell Canada, SNC-Lavalin, Bombardier, Telus and Hudson Bay.
In 2017, the firm began a process of evaluating and reporting on the transparency of its sustainable development activities. This approach would give rise to a first sustainability report describing the firm's efforts in implementing the ten founding principles of the United Nations Global Compact. Three years later, the firm continued its efforts and delivered its third sustainability report.
For 2019, Ædifica's goal was to reduce its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions related to its operations by at least 5% compared to the previous year and by 10% compared to the 2017 reference year, before carbon compensation. A target that has been well exceeded! In addition, the collective has reached the milestone of one million square meters certified and candidates for LEED and WELL!
"Sustainable development must, now more than ever, become one of the fundamental principles of architecture, design, urban planning and engineering. But how can we grow in the face of this urgent need to reduce growth? Ensuring the health and wellbeing of our communities in all resilience and eco-responsibility is our mission and we are determined to act in this direction." added Jean-Pierre Généreux, President and Chief Executive Officer of Ædifica.
